Mary Jane Sassman, 75, of Hamilton Square, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Capital Health System at Fuld in Trenton. Born in Perth Amboy, she grew up in Woodbridge and moved to Hamilton in 1976. Mary Jane worked for many years as a medical secretary at Homer, Weber and Young in Woodbridge and for Dr. Kenneth Kaminker in Hamilton. She stayed home to raise her children before returning to work at McGraw Hill where she retired from 15 years ago. Mary Jane was an active member of the Nottingham Squares Senior Club. She was a former member of the Executive Board for the Steinert Marching Unit. Mrs. Sassman was a former PTA President at Alexander School. Her greatest joy was being with her family and cheering on the Hibernians soccer team when her son played. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Selena (Banks) Roman; she is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Raymond U. Sassman, Jr.; her daughter, Cameran (Sassman) O’Connell and her husband, Matthew; her son, Scott Sassman and his wife, Susana; her grandchildren, Zachary Huestis, Kasey Sassman, Sonny Sassman, Brian O’Connell and Jason O’Connell; her sister-in-law, Joyce (Sassman) Donini; her nephew, Craig Donini and his wife, Mary; her great niece, Gabriella Donini; her dearest friends that were considered her sisters, Elaine Sabol, Judy Franchette and Eileen Smith. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish, Our Lady of Sorrows RC Church, 3816 East State St. Ext., Hamilton, NJ 08691. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 14, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the Saul Colonial Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary Jane’s memory to American Heart Association by visiting In Memory Of at www.inmemoryof-memorial.org.
