Mary Jean (Richardson) Stephens-Russ

On June 8, 2017 Mary Jean found eternal peace and comfort in heaven.

Born in Monroe County March 4, 1929 to Edgar Lee Richardson and Olive Mae (nee) Richardson, she was the descendant of Richardson pioneers who came to this area in the 1820's. She began dating Virgil Lee Stephens in high school at Unionville and, after graduating, they married April 16, 1948. His passing in 1994 ended over 46 years of happy marriage. She later married John Russ who passed away in 2010.

She retired from Indiana University. She was a member of Unionville Church of Christ for many years before joining Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.

She leaves behind her children Larry (Sherry), Donna (Dave Max) and Sandy (Randy Abram). Her grandchildren are Twyla Stephens, Chad Stephens (Tracy: Piper & Jayden Stephens, Jordan Mathis), Kevin, Jared and Justin Evans; Crystal (Max) (Andy Pappas: Julie Max, Rylee Pappas and Billy, Cody, Maddy, Shelby and Emily Pappas); Heather (Abram) (Tom Garrison: Wesley and Emma), and Kyle Abram (Melissa: Ashley, Jenna and Taylor). She is also survived by her brother, Vernal Richardson (Teena).

She has now joined siblings Bea (Bivian) (Glen Whaley), Wanda Lou (Fred Nethken), Wilma Sue (Bill Fleetwood) and James Russell (Sally) as well as many other loved ones, relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. Burial beside Virgil at Valhalla Memory Gardens will follow. Friends may visit the family on Monday at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
