Mary Josephine (Filion) Campbell died on July 31, 2016 in Spokane, Washington. She passed peacefully in her sleep at her home of six years, Regal Brookdale Retirement Center. Jo was born July 11, 1923 at the family farm near Grand Coulee, Washington, to parents Paul and Margaret (Wallace) Filion. She attended Almira schools and Deaconess Nursing School. She married after nursing school and lived and worked in hospitals in Oklahoma, Newport, Washington, and Pasco, Washington. During that time in the late forties she had two daughters, Natalie and Christine. After divorce she moved to Electric City, Washington to be near her parents and worked at the Grand Coulee Hospital. Jo married Ralph E. Campbell in 1957 and moved to Almira. She was able to be a stay at home wife and mom. There always seemed to always be a pan of boiling water on the stone sterilizing syringes and needles, getting ready for the next person to show up for their allergy shot. Many phone calls came through from folks looking for a bit of medical advice. Jo spent many hours sewing, knitting, fishing, and walking. She was a prolific reader, especially mysteries. Losing her ability to read due to macular degeneration was a huge personal loss to her. She is predeceased in death by her parents Paul and Margaret Filion; Husband Ralph Campbell; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Delbert Evers; Sister Joyce McKay; brother and sister-in-law Sam and Ava (Wetzel) Filion, and niece Paula Filion. Jo is survived by daughters Natalie (John) DuPree of Spokane, Washington and Christine (Miles) Wagner of Woodburn, Oregon. Grandchildren Vonnie (Andre) Miesch and Shane DuPree, both of Spokane, Washington and Kelsey Wagner of West Linn, Oregon. Great grandchildren: Nick Bogle, Kiarra DuPree, Liam DuPree, Courtnee Wahl, Loretta DuPree, all of Spokane; Ella, Amelia, Leyton, Duncan, and Hudson of West Linn, Oregon; Nephews Jerry (Anne) Filion of Harrington, Washington; Mitch (Anne) McKay of Chicago, Illinois; Dan (Laura) McKay of Almira, Washington and niece Michon Filion Skirving of Portland, Oregon. A special thank you to her caregivers at Brookdale, especially Kaylle, Marcy, Fretchie, and Julia. Friends and family are invited to attend graveside services at Almira Cemetery on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 12:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life with food and wine at the Almira Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Almira Cemetery Endowment, P.O. Box 114, Almira, Washington 99103 or the American Red Cross Greater Inland Northwest, 315 W. Nora Ave, Spokane, Wa 99205, or to Lincoln Hospital Foundation, 10 Nichols St, Davenport, Wa, 99122.
