Mary Lou Heschel, 89, of Fremont, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017 at Valley View Health Campus in Fremont. She was born the daughter of Archie and Cleo (Cordrey) Batey on May 8, 1928 in Fremont. Mary attended Fremont Ross High School, and later worked as a secretary and finally a switchboard operator at Fremont Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She married William A. Heschel on January 18, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on September 22, 2003.

Mary was a very busy woman. Aside from raising her five children, she had many hobbies and was very involved in her church and her community. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament, the Rose Altar Society, and, along with William, acted as a Eucharistic minister. She was also a member of the Mother of Twins Club, and delivered meals to other in need for Meals on Wheels. Never one to remain idle, later in life she learned how to swim at the YMCA, as well as how to ice skate. She was also a very skilled seamstress, and would make wedding dresses for her daughters and various other articles of clothing for everyone in her family. However, her greatest passion was ballroom dancing, and had in fact first met her husband, William, while at a dance. It quickly became their routine to go to dances and balls anywhere they could find one, including the fast paced dances of Big Band Music. It was their favorite hobby together, and she kept dancing throughout her life until she was no longer able.

Mary is survived by her five children; Barbara Kay Schroder, of Fremont, Christy Lynn Ferguson, of Fremont, Martha Mueller, of TX, Marcia Everett, of Clyde, Scott Heschel, of PA, brothers; David Batey, of Fremont, Steve Batey, of TN, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William, sisters; Doris Kaiser, Linda Desjardens, grandson; Joshua, and an infant sister.
Mary's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Valley View Health Campus and ProMedica Hospice for their wonderful care and support over the years.
