Our Mom Peggy McMillen, passed away Friday March 3, 2017, surrounded by her family who loved her deeply.
Mom was raised in Glen Allen Mississippi, living the "Delta" life on Marathon Plantation. At 16, she attended Stephen's College and there met the love of her life, Dan McMillen. To this marriage, they had five children, while living in Wichita, Denver and finally moving to Oklahoma City.
Mom was a full-time mom, driving, participating and watching her children in various activities. To better understand life, she completed a Psychology degree at Central State University. She attempted counseling her children with what she learned - it did not work - but ended in much laughter.
Mom was a searcher, often reading and attending seminars to find her way in life. After raising her children, Mom set out on the "Artist Journey." She attended many art workshops throughout the country, often ignoring the instructor's directions and being so happy with her own art work.
On any given day, you could find Mom walking in Grand Boulevard Park, stretching her arms skyward, loving every chance meeting with fellow walkers. She loved Bible Study at Westminster, but really enjoyed breakfast with her fellow Bible Study members even more. Mom loved Grand Lake, was a trouper staying up all night playing games, loved sleeping and painting on the deck, and getting stuck on her sailboat. Mom loved being a snow bird in Tucson and enjoyed her time and travels with her daughter, Peggy, while there.
Throughout their lives, Dan and Peggy were very active in AA and Al-Anon. Mom loved her "Big Girls" luncheons and truly loved each member. Road trips, visiting friends and family were the joys of her life.
Mom carried on as a full-time grandma, lovingly called Grams, Memaw, Grandma and Grandma Peggy! She was oftentimes seen cheering on the sidelines, or showing up for special events for all 13 grandchildren.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband Dan and her oldest son David. She is survived by her children Bowe and Judy, Steve and Priscilla, Peggy Anne, Dan and Mike, Daniel and Kim. Grandchildren Sam, Destenie, Lindsey and Jared, Mitchell and Annie, Brian and Jordan, Tommy, Amy and Steve, Bridget and Raj, Margaret Courtney, Chelsea, Jacob and Destiny, Anna, and Judah. Great grandchildren Will, Grace, Maddox, Milo, Molly, Piper, Liam and Bodhi. She is also survived by her sisters, Ann and Bill, and Dorothy Mai, numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is forever grateful for Paula Avery at Caregiver Connection and to the staff of Valir Hospice.
