Mary Nell Phillips, of Oklahoma City, passed away on September 22, 2017. Mary Nell was born November 30, 1931 in Tyler, Texas to R.W. and Hattie Foshee. She grew up there attending school most of her life in Chapel Hill, Texas. She graduated high school from John Tyler High School in 1950 where she excelled in volleyball. Also, while attending school at Chapel Hill, she met her husband to be, Hoyte E. Phillips. They were married on May 6, 1950 in Tyler. She and Hoyte lived numerous places in east Texas before moving to Odessa, Texas where their son, Joe, was born in 1956. They lived in Odessa until they moved to Pampa, Texas in 1964. They resided in Pampa until 1972 when they moved to Oklahoma City, all the while, Hoyte working for Sun Oil Company. While living in Oklahoma City, Mary Nell worked as a secretary at Wiley Post Elementary School for over 25 years, which always held a special place in her heart. She and Hoyte attended First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City for many years before transferring their membership to Surrey Hills Baptist Church. Mary Nell is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Hoyte. She is survived by one son, Dr. Joseph H. Phillips, of the City, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at All Souls' Episcopal Church at 63rd and North Pennsylvania on Friday, October 13th at 3:00 p.m. Mary Nell's ashes will be inurned at the church columbarium, joining her husband's, immediately following the service.
