Mary Alice S. Halley was born on June 30, 1935 in Washington, DC to the late Pearce P. Smith and Gertrude Corrinne Smith (nee) Smith. She attended Immaculate Conception in 1953. In 1958, she received her nursing degree from St. Agnes. In 1959, she married Thomas J. Mooney. That same year, she began working for St. Agnes Hospital. In 1968 they moved to Scotland and returned to the US in 1969. The following year, they moved to Hawaii. In 1974, they returned to MD, where she continued her nursing career in Havre de Grace. In 1976 she began working in labor and delivery for GBMC. Tom Mooney was deceased in 1985. On May 24, 1992, Mary Alice married John “Jack” T. Halley, Jr. and resided in Catonsville and in 1995, she retired from a long career in nursing. In 2001, they moved to Easton. Mary Alice was very active in volunteer work at Memorial Hospital, where she volunteered for the Digestive Center and Commission Shop. She was also a Eucharistic minister for St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church., volunteer for the Talbot Historical Society, Meals on Wheels, Special Riders and as a bereavement counselor within the Talbot County schools for Talbot Hospice. Mary Alice served as treasurer for the Hyde Parke Club and assisted in their bingo games. She is survived by four children: Thomas and his wife Lisa, Tim and his wife Maureen, Michael and his wife Katie, and Colleen and her husband Jim Dans; two sisters, Patricia McArdle and Kathleen Franke, deceased brother, Paul. Mary Alice was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
