Mathew J. Ciechon, 73, of Bedford, died September 24, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family, after a short illness. He was born in Manchester on August 20, 1943, the son of Mathew J. and Marian (Lawrence) Ciechon. He grew up in Bedford and was educated in the local school system. He was a 1961 graduate of Manchester West High School and received his Bachelor's Degree from Springfield College 1991.

He was a proud veteran of the US Army serving from 1961 to 1964. Following his discharge, Matt was employed at Muntz Auto in Manchester and later became an owner of the business. He then opened his own gas/service station named Matt's Sunoco on Elm St. in Manchester. He was later employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph Company from 1972 until he retired in 1995. During his retirement he enjoyed gardening, working in his garage and woodworking in his workshop as well as camping and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He was predeceased by his sister Norma Gancarz.

Members of his family include his twin daughters Maureen Fielder of Londonderry and Wendy McPherson and her husband Lowell of Bedford, his son Mathew Ciechon III of Bedford, his eight grandchildren Alden Fielder, Madeline Fielder Hayden Fielder, Emma Brown, Owen Brown, Ava McPherson, Jesse Ciechon and Carly Ciechon, his sisters Dorothy Patten and her husband John of Melbourne, Florida and Margaret Cavallaro of Davie Florida and his significant other Marge Benton as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday September 29 from 4 to 7 pm at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday September 30 at 10 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Hedwig Cemetery in Bedford. In lieu flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Mathew's name be made to the American Cancer Society 2 Commerce Drive Suite 110 Bedford, NH 03110 or to the American Red Cross 2 Maitland St. Concord, NH 03301
