Maurice C. Blanken, 97, a longtime resident of Glassboro, died peacefully at home on March 22nd. A World War II veteran, Mr. Blanken served honorably in the Army from 1941 to 1944. Mr. Blanken was a professor at Rowan University, where he taught Political Science for over 25 years. During his tenure at that college, Mr. Blanken was politically active, particularly with the McCarthy and McGovern campaigns. He had numerous articles on political and economic issues published in South Jersey and Philadelphia newspapers. Professor Blanken also authored two books on the subject of Political Science. Mr. Blanken is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Helen J. Blanken, two daughters Jean Blanken Ramsay and Elizabeth B. Patterson and her husband James E. Patterson, and two grandsons, James B. Patterson and his wife Mary Beth Patterson and Kent S. Patterson and his wife Jacinta Marie Patterson. During his life, Mr. Blanken was blessed with wonderful friends and colleagues. A Memorial Service for Professor Blanken will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Glassboro, 300 University Blvd., Glassboro, NJ, on April 11th at 11:30 AM with a visitation from 10:00 – 11:30 AM.
