MAURINE LOIS McNEILL Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident, Maurine Lois McNeill will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1 at the Cortez First United Methodist Church. Reverend Tom Towns will be officiating. Maurine was born on August 12, 1927 in Texhoma, Okla. the daughter of Beverly Franklin and Althea (Kidder) Haley. She passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at her daughter's home in Dove Creek at the age of 87. "Professional Business Woman" is how many will remember Maurine. She was the Director of the Department of Social Services for 30 years. Maurine was also a registered nurse and worked for Southwest Memorial Hospital and for Dr. CE Parmely for a number of years. She cared deeply for others and spent much time knitting over 1, 000 caps for newborn babies. Maurine maintained memberships with P.E.O, First United Methodist Church, the 40's Bunch, and loved spending time with the "Golden Girls." An artist at heart, she enjoyed doing needle point, sewing, constructing puzzles, doing plastic canvas art and charcoal media art. Dancing and ice skating were also sports Maurine enjoyed participating in. Surviving Maurine are her children, Frank McNeill and wife, Kathie of Edwards, Colo., Connie Fisher and husband, Terry of Dove Creek; two grandchildren, Haley McNeill and Andy McNeill of Edwards, Colo.; and her brothers, Charles Haley and wife, Marilyn of Cortez and Paul Haley and wife, Kay of Gunnison, Colo.; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding Maurine in death are her parents, BF and Althea Haley; and her former husband, Howard L. McNeill. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to an organization of your choice.
