Max Martin Marsh of Bloomington, passed away September 17, 2016 in IU Hospice House. He was 93.
Born February 25, 1923 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Albert E. and Sarah(Martin)Marsh. Max was a 1940 graduate of Shortridge High School. While attending Indiana University Extension Division at night, he worked first at Herff-Jones Co. as an assistant chemist and later as a laboratory assistant at Eli Lilly & Co.
In 1943 he joined the US Army, serving overseas in India for 2 ½ years during World War II. At the end of the war he moved to Indiana University campus in Bloomington to complete his undergraduate work. He received a B.S. Degree in Chemistry with High Honors in 1947.
Declining a fellowship to Johns Hopkins University he returned to Lilly as a chemist in the Analytical Department. His interests and activities covered a wide range in the fields of chemistry, molecular biology and informatics. Max finished his 42 year career at Lilly as a Research Advisor.
Max is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jane(Herold)Marsh, children: Deborah L. Kinkead of Indianapolis, Shawn D.(James Struthers)of Chicago and Neil P.(Beckie Hunter) of Boston, three grandsons: Timothy and Tyler Marsh and Max Tanner (Emily)Kinkead. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Timothy J., a little sister and a brother.
Calling in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN 47401 will be from 4-8 p.m. on September 23, 2016 with military honors presented by the Monroe County Honor Guard at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to I.U. Hospice House, 2810 S. Deborah Drive, Bloomington, IN 47403. There will be no service and burial will be private.
