LEWISTON: Maxine Russell Rines, 86, of Hartford, ME passed away peacefully on Monday March 13, 2017 at CMMC in Lewiston. She was born on June 18, 1930 in Grinnell, Iowa a daughter of the late William and Viola (Parmley) Russell.
Growing up, she attended schools in Grinnell, Iowa and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1947. After high school, Maxine attended God's Bible College in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated in 1954. She married Paul W. Rines on June 19, 1954 who became a minister in the Church of the Nazarene and they served together in several churches for 39 years. During this time she served as children's worker, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Director and pianist. Also she enjoyed substitute teaching in various elementary schools. She had special interest in reaching out to disadvantaged children.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Baker, and her husband, James, of Largo, Florida, her son, Douglas Rines and his wife, Faith of Hartford, Maine and two sisters, Wilma Lord and Ruth Jones both of Grinnell, IA. She also leaves behind six grandchildren; Erin Baker Canepa and her husband, Michael of Brandon, Florida, Dr. Amanda Baker Newcity and husband, Zack of Brandon, Florida, Stephen Paul Rines and his wife CarolAnn of Gulfport, Mississippi, Adrienne Rines Haglin and her husband Andrew of Salem, New Hampshire. Kyle Rines and Kaitlyn Rines of Hartford, Maine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Paul W. Rines of Hartford, Maine and her son, Stephen Rines of Derby, Vermont a brother, Robert C. Russell of Columbus, Ohio, and a sister, Mary Doris Russell of Grinnell, Iowa.

A private committal will be held in the Spring by the family at Turner Village Cemetery in Turner. Those wishing, in lieu of flowers, are asked to make a charitable contribution in her memory to Samaritans Purse at www.samaritanspurse.org.
