Melda Neely, 90, of Lake Jackson, TX, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016 in her home, surrounded by her family, friends, and caretakers. Melda was born to loving parents Desponie Savoy and Marie Litta Arnauld on September 27, 1926, in Arnaudville, LA. Melda married the love of her life William Madison Neely on April 2, 1950 while he was in the US Navy and following his honorable service and discharge they made their home in Freeport, TX where they raised their family. Melda celebrated every year of her marriage until William passed away in 2011.
Melda worked for several year as a store clerk and buyer for Brown's Department Store in Freeport, TX. She was an excellent Cajun cook and seamstress. She loved her French-Cajun heritage, including the foods, the music, and the culture. She was a longtime member of St. Michael Catholic Church of Lake Jackson and came from a strong Catholic home. She kept a beautiful home filled with photos and flowers and she was near and dear to many around her.
Melda is preceded in death by her parents Despanie Savoy & Marie Litta Arnaud; her husband William Neely; her sisters Irene Gaithe & Lorena (Cric) Fruge and her brothers Cleveland Savoy, Harry Savoy; her nephews Ronald Gaithe, Kenneth Savoy, and David Savoy; and her niece Melissa Fruge.
Melda is survived by her daughters Jill Neely Clark and Joyce Neely Meyer; her grandsons Rocky (Rachel) Thomas, Zack (Casey) Boone, Tyler Clark, Ryan Clark, granddaughter Jordan Meyer; her great grandson Hudson Thomas and great granddaughter Harper Thomas; and soon to be baby Boone.
Melda will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
Serving as pallbearers are grandsons Rocky Thomas, Zach Boone, Tyler Clark and Ryan Clark.
The family of Melda Neely wish to thank family and friends for their love and support at this time. They also wish to thank their wonderful caregivers, Linda Yarbrough, Aglais (Lisa) Wolber, Esmeralda Groom, Safira Barros, Bessie Higgins and Liz Harris. A Visitation will be held on Friday January 6 2017 at Restwood Funeral Home, beginning at 6pm with Rosary starting at 7pm.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 7 2017 at Restwood Funeral Home at 10am. Melda will be laid to rest next to her husband immediately following funeral services.
