Merlin H. Folmsbee, 89, a resident of Oxford Veteran's Home and formerly of Perry Road, Binghamton, NY , went to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 3, 2017. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy E. Folmsbee; brother, Grant Folmsbee; sister, Marion King. He is survived by a son, Rev. Dr. Ken & Pat Folmsbee; daughters, Bonnie & Keith Manning, Kathy & Mike Brochowicz; sisters, Dorothy Turner and Betty Spangenburg; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson. While he had many dogs through the years, he is also survived by his lone companion and beloved dog, Sampson and special friends at the Town of Chenango offices. Merlin proudly served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War; serving on several ships in the South Pacific, he was a recipient of numerous medals and commendations. His working career included working as a machinist for Link Aviation, Ozalid etc, but much joy he served as DCO for the Town of Chenango for over 20 years. He was an avid hunter, collector of antique machinery, guns, clocks and knives. He loved reading the Bible and most recently, had been a member of the Castle Creek United Methodist Church and the Bethesda Bible Church at Choconut Center. A celebration of Life will be held at Castle Creek United Methodist Church, 1087 Castle Creek Road, Castle Creek, NY 13744 on June 10, 2017 at 11:00 am with his son, Rev. Dr. Ken Folmsbee, officiating. Memorial gifts may be given in his name to the Front Street Dog Shelter, 110 Cutler Pond Road, Binghamton, NY 13905. Burial will be at later date at the convenience of the family.
