On December 24, 2017 Merrion went to be with our lord to celebrate his birth on Christmas Day. Merrion was born in Garnet, Kansas on January 17, 1941. He moved from Kansas to Arizona at a young age with his family. Merrion was a pipe fitter and also worked for an insurance company in his early twenties. He became a police officer for Glendale, Arizona on December 16, 1963 and was part of the 12 original crew. He worked many hats at the police department from dispatch to a sergeant where he made officer of the year. He formed the ID department and wrote an instruction manual that is still used today. He also instituted the process of getting the first ID van. Merrion then worked several years as a detective. After retiring he started "Photos by Al" and made many happy memories for thousands of brides along with becoming an ordained minister. Later he retired totally but still enjoyed his photography, traveling around Arizona and collecting anything that was John Wayne. Merrion loved to sing and play his guitar to country music with his brother. Merrion is survived by his wife Sharon, three sons Robert, Alan and Richard, Sister Bette Jo, Brother Norman, sister in law Carmen, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 2rd, at 1:00pm at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W Bethany Home Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85013. Interment will follow at West Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale, Arizona 85301.
