He graduated from Central Catholic High School and from Purdue University, where he attended in both West Lafayette and Fort Wayne. He spent his entire career of 42 years with Michael Kinder & Sons Inc., where he served as partner and dedicated tireless efforts and hours for his company in a job that he truly loved, even stopping to visit construction sites when he was receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer in 1990. Mike also served as a volunteer for numerous organizations during his career and in his retirement, including the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocesan Building Improvements Committee, the St. Therese Parish Council, and the St. Therese Building and Grounds Committee; he managed the contractors who built the Hope Alive Ministry House and served on the board for the Carpenters' Apprenticeship Training Program; he was also highly involved with the Building Contractors Association of Northeast Indiana where he judged the BCA Excellence in Construction Awards for 11 years, acted as a board of trustees member for the Northeast Indiana Construction Advancement Foundation, and in 2003, was awarded the BCA Summit Award for outstanding contributions to the construction industry.

Mike's proudest achievements were his faith and his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sandra (Stolte) Kinder; sons Michael III (Wendy) and Patrick (Betsy); daughters Christine (John) Colvin, Kathy (Dave) Campbell, Kari (Tom) Cummings, Holly (Bryan) Steward, Emily (Ricky) Brough; grandchildren John (Brooke), Kayley, Daniel and Michael Colvin, Blair and Leland Campbell, Tommy and Katie Cummings, Paige, Claire, and Andrew Kinder, Maggie, Sam, Ellie and Jack Steward, twin Brough grandchildren on the way, and two great-grandchildren; brother Tom (Joni); sisters Pat (Tony) Becker, Anne (Paul) Knupke; and numerous nieces and nephews. He enjoyed many years of happiness as a husband, father, and grandfather. He found great delight in spending time with his family at home, Clear Lake, Purdue (where he was an avid fan), and on numerous vacations over the years, especially in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Father John Delaney, is at 11 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Rd., with visitation from 10 - 11 a.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 2 - 5 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Klaehn, Fahl, Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road, with remembrances of Mike shared at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stanford University for Dr. George W.
