Michael J. Cooper, 71, of Manchester, died October 19, 2016 at his residence after a long illness. He was born in Manchester on September 7, 1945 the youngest child of Forrest and Margaret (Morin) Cooper and was a lifelong resident of the Queen City. He was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Manchester High School West.

Following his graduation, Mike served as an apprentice ironworker with Local 747 in Manchester and continued as a journeyman for more than 35 years. As a Union ironworker, his expertise can be seen by all throughout the city's skyline as he was a member of a great team that built all of the major buildings in Manchester and across the state. He was a member of the Workman's Club and a number of the city's other social clubs. In retirement, Michael truly enjoyed everything automobile related especially the complete restoration of his pride and joy, his 1947 Plymouth convertible. He also loved a challenging round of golf especially with his grandson Patrick. He will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 26 years Barbara M. (Fox) Cooper in 1996 and by his brother Robert Cooper and his sister Barbara Miller.

Members of his family include his son Jason Cooper, his granddaughter Jennifer Cooper both of Manchester, his grandson Patrick Cooper of Holbrook, MA, his two sisters Dorothy Morin of Manchester and Diana Chaput and her husband Ray of Maryland as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation was held on Monday October 24 from 4 to 7 pm at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester. A Funeral Service was celebrated on Tuesday October 25 at 10 am in the funeral home. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery in Bedford.
