MICHEL GERARD MAILHES, age 87, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017. 'Mike' was a native and life-long New Orleanian, son of the late Michel Antoine Mailhes and the late Leone Heisel Mailhes, and beloved husband to the late Doris Ballay Mailhes. He is survived by his brother Louis E. Mailhes; his daughter Lillian Mailhes O'Cain; his son Michel S. Mailhes; and 3 grandchildren, Grant Mailhes, Ian O'Cain, and Cody O'Cain. He attended Tulane University and earned a Bachelors in Business Administration, and served our country in the US Army during the Korean War in radio communications. He worked at International Harvester for over 50 years as one of the most successful Fleet Salesman in the company's history. He was an Associate Member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, an Associate Member of the New Orleans Chapter of the American Public Works Association, Member of the International Harvester Triple Diamond and Million Dollar Clubs, Member of the New Orleans Racing Pigeon and Dixie Racing Pigeon Clubs, Member of the Greater New Orleans Combine, and was the 2015 recipient of the AU Elwin Anderson Legends of the Racing Pigeons Sport Award. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKELAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery), on Friday, February 17, 2017, at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. Visitation will occur Friday morning from 11:00 A.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers, friends can make donations to St. Claire's Monastery, 720 Henry Clay Ave., New Orleans, LA.
