Mildred Elliott Williams Heffler, 93, of Salisbury passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Born January 28, 1924 in Eden, MD she was the daughter of the late Fred Thomas and Ida Washburn Elliott where she grew up on the family farm. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, LaMonte Williams. Her second husband, Martin Heffler died in 1986 also on April 15. Mildred had two brothers, Paul and Fred, Jr. (infant) and two sisters, Lena Merva and Hilda Thompson. Mildred was the last living sibling of five. She is survived by two daughters, Isabelle Williams Stottlemyer and husband Stan of Clear Spring, MD and Teresa Hammerbacher of Salisbury. She is also survived by an exchange student, Liliana Guidi of Italy whom Mildred cherished as another daughter. In addition, she is survived by four grandsons, Corey Edward Stottlemyer and wife Katie Nash of Frederick, MD, Brian Reed Stottlemyer and wife Lisa of Clear Spring, MD, Karl Gregory Hammerbacher and Zachary David Hammerbacher, both of Salisbury, MD; four great-grandchildren, Stanley and Zeno Stottlemyer of Clear Spring, and Cade and Liberty Stottlemyer of Frederick, MD; one nephew, Douglas Elliott and wife Pat, and two nieces, Nancy Stoltis and husband Joe and Paula Kay Elliott. Mrs. Heffler is also survived by an exceptionally dear friend, Sandy Clark and husband Don. Mildred graduated from Wicomico High School and served as a PTA president for Delmar Elementary School and as youth Sunday school leader for the First Methodist Church in Delmar, DE in her earlier years. She was a faithful member of St. Albans Episcopal Church in Salisbury where she especially enjoyed fellowship of the Souper Seniors Group and her volunteer work at the Joseph House. Beginning in the 1960’s, Mildred also had four legged children and these four Brittany Spaniels also preceded her in death. Max, her current Brittany survives her. Mrs. Heffler enjoyed reading, collecting antiques, and adding to her extensive collection of china and teapots. She delighted in the care of her yard and house plants, especially her eighty-plus orchids which bloomed more than once in her care. She used her vast cookbook collection to bake and share her culinary efforts with those whose friendships she valued. Family members enjoyed her many specialty items. Family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Bounds Funeral Home, 705 East Main Street, Salisbury, MD 21804. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 302 St. Alban's Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804. Rev. Dr. Frieda Malcolm will officiate. Entombment will be held privately with the family at Wicomico Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Costal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 and/or St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 302 St. Alban's Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804.
