Mildred M. Stafford of St Petersburg, FL and previously, Cincinnati, OH, died January 14, 2017 at the age of 83. Millie was born August 9, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated from West Chester State Teachers College in 1955 and received her Master’s Degree in Education from University of Cincinnati in 1979. Millie spent her career teaching in the Pennsylvania and Ohio school systems earning a Distinguished Teacher award in 1991. Once retired, she continued to tutor children in the St. Petersburg area.

Millie's love of music led her to years of singing in the church choirs of several Episcopal churches in the US and abroad. She was also a lector and lay minister at her home church in St. Petersburg. During her lifetime, Millie lived in Wales and England and loved traveling abroad; China, Egypt, India, Russia, and Italy are numbered among those countries visited. Millie often joked that she was mean and ornery, but that didn’t apply when it came to cats for whom she had a special affinity. Over the years she adopted many who were lucky to live in her care.

Millie is survived by her daughters Cheryl and Emilie, her granddaughters Sara, Colleen, and Tara, her beloved cat and companion, Smokey Blue, and countless friends in St. Petersburg, FL, Cincinnati, OH and around the globe.

In lieu of flowers or gifts the family requests that donations be made in her name to Pet Pal St. Petersburg Animal Shelter (petpalanimalshelter.com) or the Episcopal Church Foundation (www.episcopalfoundation.org)
