MILDRED MARIE HOOD, 98, of Fort Wayne, passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital. Born Feb. 8, 1919 in Wabash, she was she was the daughter of the late Ludwig and Martha (Ewald) Brabender. She passed the skating test to join the Indianapolis Roller Derby but decided to go to Beauty College and graduated from the Rainbow Academy Beauty Culture School in 1937 and opened her own beauty shop. In 1940 she enrolled in Indianapolis City Hospital School for Nurses and graduated in 1944. She enlisted in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps in 1944 and worked as a graduate nurse at Crile Military Hospital in Parma, Ohio. She retired from Parkview Hospital in 1985 after working as a registered nurse for 25 years. She was a member of Anthony Wayne First Church of God, American Legion Post 160, Homemakers Club, Martha Christian Council, Parkview Hospital Ambassadors, Parkview Seniors Club, Variety Club, Crescent Community Women's Club, an alumna of Wishard Hospital, and was a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years. Surviving are her children, Michael Wayne Hood, Joetta Marie Miller, David Ludwig Hood, and Robert Fredrick Hood; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; nephew, Steven Lloyd Davis; and cousin, Erica Sattler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diana Louise in 1949 and husband Bobby Emerson Hood in 1974. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2017 at Anthony Wayne First Church of God, 6012 South Bend Dr., Fort Wayne (IN 46804). Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017 at the church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Preferred memorials may be made to the church, Parkview Hospital, or American Legion Post 160.
