Milton Roddy Fischer (Rod) passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017. He is reunited with his wife of 61 years, Pauline, and his son, Patrick. Rod was born August 28, 1929 in Wallace, Idaho to Nora Roddy and Alex Fischer. The oldest of two boys, Rod attended elementary school in Gilmore, Idaho where his mother was his teacher. He attended high school first in Salmon, Idaho and then the family moved to Triumph, Idaho where his mother taught school and his father worked in the mine. Rod graduated from Hailey High School. He graduated from ISC (Idaho State College) in 1951 with a degree in teaching with an emphasis in Earth Science and two weeks later was drafted into the U.S. Army for the Korean Conflict. He was recruited for Counter Intelligence training with the Army and was stationed in Baltimore, Chicago, and Denver. After the service, he taught school in Idaho Falls and attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he was active in the Knights of Columbus. It was there that he met his bride and partner for life, Pauline Anna Phillipp. They were married August 6, 1955. They raised 8 children in Idaho Falls while teaching at Claire E. Gale Junior High and working evenings and weekends at the AEC (now known as INL). He retired from teaching in 1984 and worked full time for the AEC before retiring. He was an avid hunter and loved spending time in the mountains. His favorite stories involved hunting for either wild game or rocks with his sons. In 2010, Rod and Pauline moved to Twin Falls to be closer to family. They were members of St. Edward's Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Victor Carroll Fischer; his wife of 61 years, Pauline; and his son, Patrick Roddy. He is survived by his children: Therese (Richard), Twin Falls; Kathleen, Lafayette, CO; Karen, Twin Falls; Patrick's wife, DeeDee, Loveland, CO; Alex (Anne), Frederick, CO; Carroll, Pocatello; Mike (Linda), Eagle; and Christine (Bryon), Pocatello; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary and visitation will be held Thursday, February 9 at 7:00 pm at Buck Miller Hann Funeral Home, 825 E 17th St in Idaho Falls. The funeral Mass will be Friday, February 10 at 11:00 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 145 9th St in Idaho Falls with graveside service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Knights of Columbus or any Suicide Prevention group in your community.
