Moises A. Castro, Sr., 88, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the home of his son after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Margot (Madruga) Castro; his son, Moises Castro and his wife, Sheralyn; his son Ramon Castro; his son, Mario Castro and his wife, Marianne; and five grandchildren, Stephanie, Ben, Greg, Darrian and Victor. Granddaughter, Julia Marie, preceded him.

Moises was born in Matanzas, Cuba to Ramon and Victoriana Castro. In 1965, Moises moved with his family to the Kansas City area. The Safeway Company employed him for 25 years until his retirement in 1990. After retirement, Moises and his wife moved to Overland Park, KS where they remained until illness required that they move to St. Louis, MO to live with family. His son and daughter-in-law, Mario and Marianne, lovingly cared for him the last two years of his life. The family gives them and everyone else who cared for Moises their greatest gratitude.

Moises was a consummate cook and enjoyed preparing barbecues and a variety of Cuban dishes for his family and friends. Over the years, he developed an interest in collecting coins and involved all of his grandchildren in this hobby. He was also a sports enthusiast, always an avid fan of the Yankees, Royals, and Cardinals; he enjoyed attending and watching baseball on TV.

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 5-8pm in the Chapel at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 11:30am at the Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Chapel.
