Morris Dean McCoy, age 84, born May 16, 1932, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at Autumn Hills Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Bloomington, Indiana, the city of his birth, in the presence of his family. His family surrounded his bedside and sang hymns as they watched him fall asleep and move on to be with the Lord and the loved ones that predeceased him.

Morris spent his childhood growing up on West Sixth Street in Bloomington where he enjoyed delivering a large paper route for the Bloomington Daily Telephone. He was very blessed with a loving Christian family that gave him a dad, Floyd, that ran a cutting machine in the local limestone trade and worked for the WPA during the depression. His mother Naomi (Dobson), a wonderful Christian woman, took care of the home and was known among the family for her talent at playing beautiful music by ear. Morris was also abundantly blessed to have five very loving sisters; Mary Chaney (late husband Sonny), Evelyn Ruth Griffith (late husband Robert), Donna Wickens (husband Ronnie), Reva Doliana (late husband Marvin and husband Jim Pattillo), and Glenda Camp. All his sisters survive him except Donna that went home to the Lord in 1994.

Morris graduated from Bloomington High School in 1950 and married the love of his life Blanche Alice Hawkins on September 8, 1950. Alice was also a member of the class of 1950 and survives him. Soon after graduating high school Morris joined the US Navy. Upon returning from the Navy Morris worked at RCA, Allisons Transmission in Indianapolis, and Griffith Motor Express, in accounting, where he was employed for over 30 years. During these years Morris also provided an income tax service out of his home. Following these work years Morris and Alice worked together managing student apartments they had purchased in Bloomington.

Morris and Alice raised three children; all of them and the grandchildren surviving him: Michael Dean McCoy (wife Diane), Janet Lynn McCoy, and Douglas Morris McCoy (wife Kathy). Grandchildren are: John Wesley McCoy (wife Deverie), Clinton Wayne McCoy (wife Jessica), William Cody McCoy (wife Beth), Caitlin Alyssa Crow (husband Aaron), Matthew Douglas McCoy, and Anna Grace McCoy. Great grandchildren are: Bryna and Ava (John Wesley), Scott and Taylor (Clinton Wayne), and Dylan and Michael (William Cody).

Morris loved the Lord, his family, reading, accounting, and sports. The McCoy's were members of the First Free Methodist Church for many years and more recently Morris and Alice were members of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. Morris was very active at the Free Methodist Church serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Scoutmaster. Morris loved his children very much and was very supportive in all they endeavored to do. Morris loved to read for hours on end and was known to read comics so much as a child that he'd get eye strain and then cover one eye to continue reading. Morris loved accounting and especially providing his tax service to many friends and acquaintances. Morris and Alice were Bloomington Panthers through and through never missing a game of the football 60 game winning streak. Also they thoroughly enjoyed IU sports being season ticketholders for both football and basketball.

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm at Day & Deremiah Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. Morris' Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 4 pm Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, 2700 E. Rogers Rd. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Autumn Hills Alzheimer's Special Care Center for their very loving care of Morris.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Hoosier Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 5625 State Rd 46, Bloomington, IN 47401.
