Myrna Jean Smith Hartley,77, of Midlothian, passed away on November 9, 2017. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, William “Bob”; sons, William “Bill” (Maureen) of Columbia, MD and son, Mark of Midlothian, VA; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Victor and Jack of Columbia, MD; sister, Janet (Carrington Goode-Deceased); brothers, Gordon (Paula) Smith and Ben (Nancy) Smith and many nieces and nephews. Myrna taught school for several systems for over 31 years. After retiring from teaching in 1995, she kept records for a fashion jewelry association of Providence, RI until 2008. She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren, taking them places, and spoiling them; going on hikes in area parks with Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department and being by the James and Rappahannock Rivers. She also enjoyed visiting local historical sites. She served in the Board of Directors for Friends of the James River Park as Treasurer from 2009 until 2016, and enjoyed taking adult education classes at LLI. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte.10). Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Friends of the James River Park, P.O. Box 4453, Richmond, VA 23220 or to the American Cancer Society or LLI, P.O. Box 1090, Midlothian, VA 23113.
