Nadine Phyllis (Carstens) Thurber, 87, of Lincoln, died Thursday, July 13, 2017.

She was born on October 16, 1929 to Gerhardt and Lucinda (Flesner) Carstens.

Nadine married Jack Thurber on December 29, 1950. They had four boys, David (Pam), Bob (Bobette), Mark (Peg) and Jim (Cindy). She is also survived by seven grandchildren Jason, John Scott, James, Kathleen, Mark Henry, Kayla, and Kathryn, and three great grandchildren Vincent, Autum and Jacob, and one on the way. Sisters Diane (Duane Klug) of Longmont, Colorado and Janice (Dennis Aldag) Battle Creek, Nebraska and her brother James Carstens (Jean) of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Nadine was a mother first and after the death of her husband Jack, she returned to college as an older student, and graduated from the UNL Teachers College with honors. She taught elementary school in the Lincoln Public Schools. She lived in Lincoln since 1957. At the time of death she resided at the Country House Senior Care Community. She was an avid reader, loved to draw and was whimsical in her creative endeavors. Nadine served as docent for the Sheldon Art Gallery for several years and was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a woman of Faith which gave her and her family confidence and peace through to the end. Her family celebrates knowing she is at peace with her creator.

Funeral services Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 10:00 AM, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home 6800 So. 14th St. with interment following in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
