Nancy Noel Cliffe Vernon of Fairfax VA, December 25th 1930 – March 29th 2017. Nancy was born and raised in Schenectady NY. She attended Swarthmore College, and earned a Master’s degree at Radcliffe. She became a teacher, first in London and then in South Africa, where Christopher (Chris) was born, following her marriage to Martin Russell. After that marriage, she returned to the U.S. and married Charles Wesley Vernon Jr (Wes) and settled in PA. Wes was a single parent following the death of Joanna’s mother shortly after her birth, so their marriage formed a new blended family. Anthony (Tony) is the youngest in the family. The family moved to Fairfax in 1968. She raised three children, later graduating from George Mason to become an addictions counselor. She was a long-time member of Truro Church in Fairfax and sang in the choir. In retirement, she taught disabled children how to swim. She is survived by her son Chris and his wife Barbara, their children Trevor and Sarah, daughter Joanna, son Tony and his wife Leslie, and their children Nathaniel (Nate) and Abigail (Abby). She will be remembered for her faith, her skill as an excellent listener, and as a kind warm presence and source of strength for all those around her.

A memorial service will be held Saturday April 8th at 2 PM in the chapel at Truro Church in Fairfax VA, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lamb Center (https://www.thelambcenter.org/) would be appreciated by the family.
