Of Spring Arbor, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living Center, at the age of 82. Nate was the son of Claude Ernest and Zelma (Miller) Whitford born June 7, 1935 in Elwell, Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Reva (Brown) Whitford; four children, Nanette (Kevin) Embury, Cheryl (David) Cooper, Melinda (Bill) Muller, and Calvin (Michelle) Whitford; nine grandchildren, Ryan (Nicole) Embury, Chelsea Embury, Darren Embury, Darek Cooper, Mathew Cooper, Elizabeth Muller, Michael Muller, Jonathan Whitford and Kaitlyn Whitford; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Embury and Alison Embury; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five sisters, Henrietta Walker, Claudia Louise French, Eunice Ann Whitford, Emma Jane King, and Patricia "Patty" Wright. He was a graduate of Alma High School, Central Michigan University with his Bachelor's degree and Eastern Michigan University with his Master's degree. He started his working career as a teacher in New Haven Michigan Community Schools. While in New Haven, he also served as the Village Clerk. He was then employed by Consumers Power Company as Farm Service Advisor and advanced to Manager and Director of Training Development. He was employed by Dresser Industries now called Haliburton in the Leadership Center as Corporate Executive Trainer eventually retiring from Dresser Industries. He created Whitford and Associates International Business Consulting. He traveled extensively in his jobs all over the world. He retired to Pharr, Texas and eventually returned to Concord, Michigan. He was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church (formerly First Church of Christ-Christian), and a member of Rotary Club and American Society Training Development. Nate enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, story-telling, traveling, woodworking, and working on cars, especially VW Bugs. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Cornerstone Christian Church on April 14, 2018 at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be on April 14, 2018 from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Contributions in memory of Nate may be made to Cornerstone Christian Church, 2395 W. High Street, Jackson, Michigan 49203.
