Norene was born August 12, 1923 on the family farm in Bertram, Texas to George Francis Garner and Ida Lenore Brewster Garner. She had an older brother , Arnold Clifford Garner. Being a rural community there was one church building that was shared by the Baptists, Methodists and Presbyterians. So even though the family was Baptists, they attended every week which meant they also sat under the Methodist and Presbyterian pastors .

Norene attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos for 2 years . She moved to Austin when her family moved from the farm to the city. It was there she met and married Julian Edwin Freeman after 5 years of courtship. She was married 22 years when Julian died suddenly of a heart attack in 1972. She was widowed at age 49 and quickly learned what she needed to be both father and mother to 2 teenage daughters. Truly a courageous and Godly woman who never quit or gave up on anything that happened to her.

She worked at JC Penny's at NW mall then Town & Country until they closed. She then moved to Foleys at Memorial City and stayed through the transformation to Macy's. She finally retired from Macy's at age 86 after a fall which broke her hip.

She is survived by her daughters , Margaret and Marian and granddaughters , Rachel and Jazz.

Visitation with the family was held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16th at Waltrip Funeral Directors in Houston, where a Celebration of Life was held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 17th and followed by interment in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
