Norma Jeanne Smith, 84, Bloomington, Indiana passed away on May 26, 2017 at IU Health Hospice House. Jeanne was born on November 6, 1932 in Bloomington, Indiana the daughter of the late Herbert D. and Hester Marie Trovero Cardwell. Jeanne and her late husband, Ralph J. Smith owned and operated the Southside Café ("Smitty's") for many years and fed Bloomington locals and many basketball notables including the 1984 United States Olympic Basketball Team while training in Bloomington. She later worked for her youngest son Jeff as cashier at his Bloomington Carwash Center on South Walnut Street where she enjoyed sharing her wit and a bit of current events with her customers. Jeanne is a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ and the Red Hat Society. Survivors: Jeffrey N. Smith and his wife Lisa; daughters-in-law, Shirley Smith and Martha Smith; grandchildren, Amy Deremiah and her husband Andy, Rebecca Schroeder and her husband Jeremiah and Samuel Smith and his wife Brittany; great-grandchildren, Rylan, Myra and Charley Deremiah, Claire and Morgan Schroeder and Corinne and Payton Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph J. Smith; sons, Ralph E. Smith and Samuel D. Smith. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, Indiana 47401. Celebration of Life services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Jeff Underwood and Bob Fenton officiating. Burial, Presbyterian Cemetery, Ellettsville, Indiana. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Southern Hills Church of Christ.
