The world lost a world traveler and a great mother, grandmother, wife and sister on New Year’s Day. Norma Davis, 83, of Altamonte Springs, passed away on January 1, 2017. Norma grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, with her four brothers and sisters: Rose, Sam, Hilda and Marty. In 1956, she married her best friend, Jay Davis, and they remained married for 37 years until Jay’s untimely passing in 1993, a year after they retired to Florida. Norma led an adventurous life. Besides raising two loving sons, Marc and Gary, she traveled the world, seeing exotic places on almost every continent, including Russia, the Panama Canal, the Middle East, South America and New Jersey. She was an enthusiastic player of mahjong, casino slots and all card games known to man, a fanatical collector of elephants and the most loyal Mets fan in the Sunshine State. (Tom Seaver and Robert Redford were her secret crushes.) Her chicken soup was recommended by the Mayo Clinic. She is a former resident of Brooklyn, Staten Island (where she was president of the Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood) and the Williamsburg neighborhood of Orlando. She is survived by her two sons, five grandchildren (Andrew, Adam, Evan, Matthew and Lacey) and niece Bobbie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Eva Silverman, and her four siblings.
