Orval was born April 23, 1932 in Sayre, OK and passed away on November 27, 2016 in Tracy, CA. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth, his parents Rough and Alleta Mauldin, brother Olan R Mauldin, sisters Naomah Story and Oletha Raulston Finley. He is survived by daughters Cassandra Barby and Tracy Mauldin-Avery; son-in-laws Jim Barby and Scott Avery, all of Pleasanton, CA; brother Olaf Mauldin of Murphys, CA; four grandchildren; Jonathan Barby of Mountain View CA, Kristin Barby of San Leandro CA, Madison and Noah Avery of Pleasanton CA, partner Joyce Roughton of Tracy, CA along with beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from Safeway in 1989 after 33 years. During his retirement, Orval enjoyed traveling in his motorhome and visiting various RV parks across the country and making new friends. In his later years he enjoyed gatherings with friends and family, his annual fish fry and his home at the River Club, where he could be seen riding in his golf cart with his dog Buffy.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He never met a stranger; he could and would strike up a conversation wherever he went. Orval will be remembered for his friendly and outgoing personality but most of all his strength and unconditional love.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at the San Joaquin River Club clubhouse at 30000 Kasson Road, Tracy, CA on Sunday, December 4th at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
