Mr. Oscar Machlis

Oscar Machlis passed away on October 6, 2015 in Port Washington, N.Y. He was 85.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Anna and Isadore Machlis. He graduated Brooklyn Technical High School and Baruch College CUNY. He met his future wife and love of his life Barbara at Baruch. They were married for 62 years, living first in Manhattan and then Franklin Square, NY, before moving to The Amsterdam at Harborside in Port Washington several years ago. He was often referred to as The Ambassador at The Amsterdam due to his outgoing, friendly nature.

After earning his CPA, Oscar worked in public accounting and later was the chief financial officer at Carolace Embroidery in Edgewater, NJ. He also generously gave of his time helping family and friends with their tax returns.

An avid golfer, he enjoyed the sport regularly until shortly before his passing.

He is survived by daughters Nancy Rechtman and Sharon Machlis Gartenberg; son-in-law Lee Gartenberg; grandchildren Marissa (Rechtman) Lemmer and Alex Rechtman; sister-in-law Dorothy Klein; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved rescue dog Lucky. He was also the husband of Barbara (Heyman) Machlis and brother of Belle (Machlis) Cooperman and Jerome Machlis, who pre-deceased him.

Burial was at Mt. Hebron cemetery in Flushing, NY.
