Ovid R. Perez, 80, of Orlando, FL passed away on July 18, 2017. He was born to the late Felix and Angela Perez on March 28, 1937 in New York, NY. Ovid was a beloved brother, uncle, great-uncle, and great-great-uncle. He lived in Cuba with his family until fleeing to Florida when Castro took over. While in Florida, Ovid attended Florida Atlantic University to become a teacher of English and graduated with a degree in education. He was also in the Marine Corps reserve and a Dade HS State football champ. After his career in teaching, Ovid moved to Chicago where he worked as a server on chartered yachts. He later returned to Florida. Ovid was a private, independent man who loved his family. He also had a love for horses. Ovid will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

He was preceded in passing by his parents and his brother-in-law, who was like a brother to him, Robert D. Johnson.

Ovid is survived by his sister, Mary I. Johnson; nephews Robert D., Albert M., and Charles D. Johnson; his great-nieces and nephew, Melissa R. Lozano, Alison R. BoDeep, and Lane Hyder; and 3 great-great-nieces and 3 great-great-nephews.

A private memorial mass will be held in memory of Ovid.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Diabetes Foundation.
