MOUGINS, France -- Pablo Picasso died Sunday (April 8, 1973) at his villa at Notre-dame-de-vie on the outskirts of Mougins, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

Born in Málaga in the Andalusian region of Spain, Picasso was the first child of Don José Ruiz y Blasco (1838–1913) and María Picasso y López. Picasso’s father was a painter and for most of his life a professor of art at the School of Crafts and a curator of a local museum.
