Patricia Ann Laabs passed away June 1, 2017 due to complications from Leukemia in hospice care in Mesa, Arizona. She was 85 years old. She was born February 18, 1932 in a U.S. Navy hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, where her father, a naval NCO, was stationed. Her parents were George and Hazel Dickerhoff. Not too long after her birth her father was transferred to San Diego. It was there in southern California the she grew up, graduating from Grossmont High School in 1950. Later that year, in June, she married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Laabs. Shortly thereafter Raymond enlisted in the United States Air Force and together they traveled the world, being stationed in at least 10 different bases around the United States and overseas. In 1965 the Air Force brought Pat's family to Elmendorf AFB, outside of Anchorage, Alaska. For many years Pat worked for the Anchorage School District, 'slinging hash' in the cafeterias for the many elementary and junior high school students. In 1984 Pat and Ray became 'snowbirds', spending summers at their cabin in Cooper's Landing, Alaska and winters in Mesa, Arizona. Raymond passed away in 1998 and Pat continued her annual migration until 2007 when she permanently moved to Mesa. Later in life she enjoyed cruising, seeing much of the world from the balcony of a luxury liner. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Laabs of Anchorage, Alaska; her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Mary Laabs of Cottonwood, Arizona, and her sister, Joan Dickerhoff of Scottsdale, Arizona. Pat was a very good person and wonderful mother and will be greatly missed. At her request there will be no service and her ashes will be spread at a time and place to be determined. Arrangements entrusted to Mariposa Gardens Funeral Care (480) 830-4422
