Patricia Clark Shaffer passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Grand Brook Memory Care in Grapevine, Texas. She was 91.

Patricia, known by many as Pat, was surrounded by her son, Jim, her two daughters, Sue and Elizabeth, their children and grandchildren and many of the Grand Brook caregivers who enjoyed her omnipresent humor and questionably accurate stories.

Pat was born in St. Louis, Missouri, moved with her mother, Anna and father, Gillespie, to Kansas City, Missouri where she graduated from Paseo High School. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority at Beloit College in Wisconsin and graduated from the Kansas City Conservatory of Music where she studied piano and voice. Pat led and sang in many church choirs over the years and was a lead vocalist in musicals such as “Oklahoma” and “The King and I”.

In 1945, Pat married James M. Shaffer who played French horn in the U.S. Navy Band during World War II. They were active in church and civic organizations in towns and cities in and around Kansas City. Pat also took on various vocations and avocations including managing the office of a prominent real estate developer and serving as a Cub Scout den mother.

In the mid-sixties, Pat and her family moved to Houston where they continued to cultivate what became many life-long friends. In 2008 Pat was hit with a series of illnesses, but she bounced back with remarkable determination. Later that year Pat and her husband moved to the Dallas area so they could be closer to their daughters. She continued to cultivate friends--seemingly as though it was her lifelong calling. Indeed, she did it well.

Her husband passed away in 2011 after a long bout with Parkinson’s disease.

While in several Dallas-area assisted living residences she continued to make friends while remaining determined to fight the kind of health issues that seem to sneak up on people as they age.

On Saturday, family and friends were there to honor her and to bid her adieu with hugs, kisses and private whispers into her ear that were with certainty about the love, kindness and laughter that she gave the world.

Pat is survived by son, James C. Shaffer and his wife Anne and Jim’s daughters, Jennifer and her sons, Solomon and Miles and, Lindsay and her son, Drew and daughter Brynn; Daughter, Sue and her husband Chuck and their children, Dayna Hulett her husband, Cory and their children, Hollyn, Kyle and Eleanor; Shay Hulett and his wife Marissa and their children, Hank and Jace; Dustin Hulett and his wife DeDe and their children, Brogan and Pace; Garrett Hulett and his wife Carly and their children Addy, Wylie and Lucas and Jodi Thompson and her husband Greg and their daughter, Sydney.; Daughter, Elizabeth and her husband Terry and their sons: Chase Matthew Awalt, his wife Nicole and their children Payton Elizabeth, Jackson Clark and Emerson Kate and Brandon Clark Awalt and his wife Tiffany.
