Patricia (Pat) Turner Mahanes, 79, passed away after a brief illness, Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Wesley Long Hospital.

A private family burial took place at the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium.

Pat was born February 19, 1938; daughter of the late Thomas Ralph and Frances Howard Turner, in Hampton, Virginia. Following graduation from Warwick High School in 1955, she attended and graduated from Longwood College in May 1959, with a BS Degree in Home Economics and Mathematics. Following college graduation, she worked as a mathematician for NASA from 1959 until 1962, and the Department of the Army at Fort Eustis from 1962 until 1965. Pat went back to work part time from 1976, until 1984 for the Department of Treasury then full time, moving into management and retiring in February 2004.

In December 1960, she married Robert D. Mahanes, alumnus of Warwick High School and Old Dominion University. They lived in Newport News until 1971, when they moved to Greensboro, NC. Pat thoroughly enjoyed retirement and spending time with the grandchildren and other family as well as some traveling and volunteering.

Pat's greatest pride and personal achievement was her family and grandchildren; cherishing both above all else.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mahanes was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Douglas Harlow Mahanes. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Robert Jeffrey Mahanes; grandchildren, Kemper, Maggie, and Molly Grace Mahanes and her sister, Diane Turner Williams.
