Paul Barber White, 92, died on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Glenaire Retirement Community in Cary. He was born at Pittman Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina on April 10, 1924 to the late Paul Merrimon and Lena Barber White.

Paul grew up in Clinton, North Carolina where his parents had moved from Roseboro shortly after his birth. He attended the public schools of Clinton and the private Annie Kate White School. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1940 and entered Wake Forest College in the fall of that year. While a student at Wake Forest he joined the Army Air Corps and served on active duty during World War II. After graduation he coached and taught school in Randolph County before entering the U.S. Navy. He served on the destroyer Dennis J. Buckley during the Korean Conflict. After being released to inactive duty, he entered the MBA program at UNC-CH, majoring in accounting. After working in management positions in Wilson and Charlotte, he entered Public Accounting with A.M. Pullen & Co. in Fayetteville, later transferring to the Greensboro office of that firm. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1960. He left the public accounting field in 1963 and joined Occidental Life Insurance Company of North Carolina in Raleigh, where he became Senior Vice-President and Secretary-Treasurer. He later returned to the field of public accounting and formed his own firm. He retired in 2001 at age 77.

He and his wife, Sara, enjoyed many rounds of golf at Raleigh Country Club and North Hills Country Club where they were members. The also enjoyed boating with their two boys and spent many days and nights cruising the Inland Waterway and the waters off the coast.

Mr. White was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Raleigh for more than 50 years and was elected Kiwanian of the Year by that organization in 1995. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge as well as the American Institute of Certified Accountants and the North Carolina Association of CPA's for more than 40 years. He was a former member of the American Legion, Post #1 in Raleigh and a member of the Raleigh Executive Club.

Paul was a devoted father, grandfather and husband who loved his family above everything else. He is survived by his two sons: Paul, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Durham and Scott and wife, Hope, of Chatham County; and by a grandson, James Scott White, Jr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara, in 2004.

Graveside Funeral Rites will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 1 PM at Raleigh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Glenaire Foundation - 4000 Glenaire Circle - Cary, NC 27511 or to St. Michael's Episcopal Church - 1520 Canterbury Road - Raleigh, NC 27609.
