Paul E. Cooper, 86, passed away October 15, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born April 12, 1931 to William and Dora [Pyle] Cooper in Commerce, Oklahoma. In 1949, Paul attended junior college for two years, then went on to proudly serve in the United States Navy from 1951 - 1955. Paul then started his education at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo, CA, majoring in Engineering and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in 1958. In June of 1956, Paul was married to the love of his life, Patricia Watkins and together they raised their eight children, Cynthia, Molly, Scott, Russell, Phillip, Camille, Nick and Joy. Paul loved to travel, and throughout his life, he traveled to 33 different countries; he also lived in a number of locations including Indonesia, Japan and Libya. He had many interests in life, he was an avid fan of Gonzaga Basketball and was able to attend the Final Four in Phoenix, he was a proud American Eagle scout, a longtime member of Knights of Columbus, the Franciscan and Cursillos; he also enjoyed hunting and fishing, in his younger years, but what meant most to him was his family. He enjoyed writing stories about his family, playing cards with his grandchildren and just spending quality time with them. He was instrumental in the founding of the Catholic Men's Retreat in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dora and his brother, Jerry. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia; his children, Cynthia (Steve) High, Molly (John) Lokhorst, Paul Scott Cooper, Russell Lance (Rosalee) Cooper, Phillip Conrad (Chona) Cooper, Camille Elaine (Joe) Hester, Nick Patrick (Cherry) Cooper and Joy Anna (Nick) Newlan as well as 17 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A rosary will be held at 10:30am with funeral mass at 11:00am, Monday, October 23, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1244 S. Power Rd in Mesa. A committal service will follow at 1:30pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd in Phoenix. Arrangements entrusted to Mariposa Gardens Funeral Care (480) 830-4422
