Paul Wilson Shelton, 93, of Oneonta passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
He was born May 18, 1923 in Warwick, TN the son of the late Henry and Clarence (Cherry) Amos.
Paul was raised in Woodville, Mississippi and graduated from Woodville High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy just before Pearl Harbor Day and served in 32 of the most major Pacific battles on the Aircraft Carrier Lexington. While on the carrier, Paul was in charge of developing Radar. While on leave in Boston, Paul met Jean Allen and they married during the war in San Francisco. After the war ended he went on to MIT on the GI Bill and graduated with honors. He was called back up during the Korean Conflict because of his knowledge of Radar.
Following the Korean Conflict Paul and Jean moved to Long Island where he began working for Sperry Rand where he invented diagnostic computer for the f-111 Fighter Jets.
Paul and Jean were married for 68 years before her death on November 13, 2013.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Paula Jean (Christopher) Morelli of Freeport, L.I.; son, Robert Allen Shelton of Milford; granddaughter, Jessica Jean Shelton of Canajoharie. He was predeceased by two brothers, Troy and Henry and two sisters, Gladys and Lucille.
