Greensboro - Paul William Spoon, age 77, surrounded by his family, went home to be with the Lord entering heaven's gates on July 12, 2017.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel with Rev. Michael Jones and Jack Canter officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00- 1:00 pm prior to the service. Interment will follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.

He was a US Army Veteran actively serving from 1958-1964. He then served with the Army National Guard from 1958-1969.

Paul was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served the Lord in many capacities. He served as youth leader at various churches for almost fifteen years. He enjoyed train excursions and air shows. His number one priority was always his family.

Paul retired from the Greensboro Police Department with thirty years of service, serving from 1963-1993, in various positions. He founded and served as team leader of the Bomb Disposal Unit for ten years.

He is predeceased by his father, J M Spoon and mother Alma S. Freeman and sister, Carolyn Clapp. He is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, Donna Newnam Spoon; son J M Spoon; daughter Anita Spoon Gaffney (David) ; granddaughters, Ashley Hagood (Zach) and Jennifer Pell; and brother, Howard Spoon (Carmen).

The family would like to thank the staff of Wesley Long Hospital for the excellent care received from the nurses and doctors, especially Shanda and David.
