Pauline 'Polly' Lauer departed this life with her characteristic peace and grace on October 4, 2017, surrounded by loving family and friends, many of whom had gathered just days before to celebrate her 91st birthday.
Polly was born in Dayton, Ohio on October 1, 1926, the daughter of Lawrence Voss and Cecilia O'Connor Voss, graduated high school in Anderson, Indiana, earned her RN Nursing Degree at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton and worked in obstetrical care. She married Thomas B. Lauer and devoted herself to creating a loving home for their six children, where she eventually also cared for her parents in their final years.
Polly and Tom enjoyed camping trips with their family and their close friends. Together they embarked on a sailing adventure from Florida to the Bahamas and eventually joined with family members and friends to establish a family retreat in Abaco which was a highlight of their retirement years.
Polly and Tom were founding members of Queen of Apostles and helped to cultivate a thriving community of faith. They in turn found the best of friends, enjoying lots of good times and supporting one another through challenging ones.
Polly is predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Thomas B Lauer, sons John L Lauer and David T Lauer, and granddaughter Betsy June Lauer Carr, siblings Elaine Thaman, and Daniel, Joseph and Larry Voss. She leaves to treasure her memory, her children Kathleen C. Lauer, Daniel J. (and Carol) Lauer, Dr. Michael A. (and Kimberle K) Lauer, Susan (and John Silverio), daughters-in-law Elva Lena Blatt and Gayle Lauer, grandchildren Kevin (and Angi), Timothy (and Jennifer), Meagan, Benjamin, and Andrew Lauer, great grandchildren Johnathan, Jude, and Griffin Lauer, and brother Ron Voss.
A liturgical celebration will take place at Queen of Apostles Community at 4435 E Patterson Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45430 at 11:00 AM this Saturday, October 14. Reception to follow on site. Condolences may be entered on the website of Tobias Funeral Home/Beavercreek, OH. Memorial donations may be made to SEM Haven, 225 Cleveland Ave, Milford, OH 45150, in recognition of their Eden Alternative nursing caregivers.
