passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Pedro was born in Oviedo, Spain, as the 7th of 16 children. Needless to say, family was a very important part of his life. He was fiercely proud of each and every one of his children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. While living in Spain, he was a member of the military and became a practicing physician specializing in orthopedic surgery. In 1963, he took a trip to the United States and was set up on a blind date with Geraldine Diaz of Ybor City. As of that moment, Pedro was destined to become a United States citizen and leave his life in Spain behind. In 1964, Pedro and Geri were married, and Pedro began his medical training again in the United States, with the added challenge of learning English as a second language. Pedro and Geri moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where Pedro did his internship, and Pedro, Jr. was born. In 1967, they moved to New York where Pedro completed his residency, and Ricardo was born. Once his residency was completed, Pedro and Geri moved back to Tampa where Pamela was born in 1971. He maintained a solo-practitioner orthopedic surgery practice in Tampa for over thirty years. He truly enjoyed caring for his patients, and was always generously helping those in need.

Although Pedro moved to the United States, he never left his family and heritage in Spain behind. Pedro and Geri took their children on many trips to visit his family. And his Spanish relatives enjoyed many extended vacations in Tampa with Pedro as well. Pedro and Geri had a passion for travel, and enjoyed seeing the world together over a span of 40 years.

Pedro was preceded in passing by his parents, Martiniano Bajo Estebanez and Pilar Bajo Fernandez of Oviedo, Spain, and his beloved wife of 52 years, Geraldine Bajo, of Tampa. He is survived by sons Pedro F. Bajo, Jr. (Chaila) and Ricardo Bajo (Maggie); daughter Dr. Pamela McClelland (Dennis); his grandchildren Alexandra Bajo, Megan Bajo, Dennis Michael McClelland, Jr., Matthew McClelland, Emily McClelland, and Brock Bajo; nephew Chris Diaz (Toni); and niece Claudine Caballero (Joe).

Pallbearers include Pedro Bajo, Jr., Ricardo Bajo, Dennis McClelland, Dennis McClelland, Jr., Dr. Leo Diaz, Chris Diaz, Joe Caballero, and Gonzalo Garcia. Honorary pallbearers include Joe Wright, Vince Caranante, Mathew McClelland and Brock Bajo.

There will be a visitation from 6:00-8:00pm on Monday, March 20th at Blount and Curry Funeral Home, 605 South MacDill Avenue. The interment will be private at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Morningstar School of Pinellas Park (a Catholic school for students with special needs), 4661 80th Avenue N, Pinellas Park, FL, 33781.
