Peggy Jean Malpass
Peggy passed away Saturday, July 22 at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, after a year and a half of fighting colon cancer. She was born November 3, 1966 to Jackie Malpass and the late Carl Edwin Malpass. Peggy grew up in Wilmington, NC and was actively involved in school and church activities. She was a member of the New Hanover High School graduating class of 1985 and attended UNC-W where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. After graduating with honors with a degree in Paralegal Technology from Cape Fear Community College, Peggy worked for Brock and Scott PLLC in Wilmington before accepting a position with the North Carolina State Ethics Commission in Raleigh where she was employed until her passing.
Peggy's personality beamed a beautiful light on family, co-workers and friends. Her greatest joys included her beloved children, Madison and Bryce Cloniger, Chris King, who was her faithful companion, and her loving brother, Carl and his family. Peggy was always optimistic and a model of courage, faith, hope, and selfless compassion shown to her family and friends as they dealt with her illness.
Peggy is survived by her mother, Jackie Malpass; children, Madison and Bryce Cloniger; brother, Carl Malpass (Crystal), Gracen, Tres, and Ava Pike; sister, Carolina Maultsby, (Michael), David and Jonathan, and her beloved companion, Chris King.
The family wishes to convey heartfelt thanks to the health care professionals in the UNC-Chapel Hill Hospital and to her co-workers at the NC State Ethics Commission, who lovingly supported her.
A memorial service will be held at Hayes Barton United Methodist, 2209 Fairview Rd, Raleigh, NC at 2:00 on Thursday, July 27, 2017.
