Perle Press, 87, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away April 17, 2014. Born May 22, 1926 in the Bronx, N.Y., to Harry and Frances Manus, she was a graduate of Hunter College and later achieved a Master's Degree in early childhood education. Perle raised her family in West Hempstead and taught kindergarten in Bellmore, N.Y. Perle had a passion not only for teaching but singing as lead with the Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Co. of Long Island and solo shows covering a repertoire from popular music to Yiddish theatre. Perle wrote, directed and performed in community theatre wherever she lived including an active retirement in Florida at Palm Aire and Coral Lakes. She enjoyed tennis and swimming throughout her life. Her vibrant life as an educator, performer, mother and grandmother touched many lives. Perle is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Dr. Marvin Press, three children, Ellen (Bobbie Becker), Robin (Michael Herzog) and Jan (Anna Whissen-Press) and 5 grand children, Jessica, Adam, Gabriel, Samantha and Aaron.
