Phillip was born March 7, 1934 to Cecil Odell and Ola Gill. He passed away December 8, 2017 at the age of 83. In 1952 Phillip married Shirley Talley, his high school sweetheart. Shirley lost her battle with cancer two days short of their fortieth wedding anniversary in 1992. After Shirley's passing, he later met and married (1997) his surviving wife Cynthia Iles Gill whom he loved and cared for very much. He was passionate about sharing his love for the Lord and his salvation in Christ with his family. Phillip was a member of Trinity Heights Baptist Church where he taught the Pastors class until it was renamed the "Gerald Taylor Memorial Class". Phillip enjoyed teaching the Gospel and sharing his love of Jesus with others.

Phil worked as an Apprentice Mechanic at Red River Army Depot for three and a half years and attended Texarkana College at night. After his apprentice program was eliminated, the Lord opened another door to a career in a field that had not existed when he was born. He allowed him to get in on the ground floor of the "Computer Age" April 1, 1956. In 1965 he began work with IBM and was there until his retirement. After retiring, he joined with two others and started their own company, Systems Consulting Associates, Inc., where he worked until illness made him too weak. However, his knowledge of computers stayed with him as he continued tinkering in the technical world for his remaining years.

Phillip is also survived by his 5 children Pam Hergenrader (Steve), Sherry Giglio (John), Phil Gill Jr. (Darla), Gary Gill (Holly) and Aimee Shelton, and step children Ray "Bubba' Stahl, Mary May (Rodney) and Sandi White. The blended family consisted of 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
