Dodgeville – Phyllis (Menke) Hying, age 94, of Dodgeville, went peacefully to be with her husband on Friday May 12, 2017 while visiting her daughter. She was born on January 10, 1923 in Muscoda, Wisconsin the oldest daughter of Anthony and Veronica (Kosharek) Menke. She graduated from Highland High School in 1940 and Platteville State Teachers College in 1942. Phyllis taught in area one room school houses including Foley and Red Oak, followed by Cobb Elementary. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, playing cards and travelling to visit family. She was active in the Dodgeville community and St. Joseph's Catholic Church for 60 years.

Phyllis married Eugene Hying on August 13, 1951 at St. Anthony's Church in Highland.
Survivors include her five children, Phil (Deb) Hying, of Cincinnati, OH, Tom Hying, of Madison, WI, Karen (Dave) Jaeger, of Medina, MN, Margaret (Joe) Vradenburg, of Mineral Point, WI, and Patty (Scott) Hampson, of Hartland, WI; nine grandchildren, Joe Hying (Jaycie Mariotti) and Kate (Greg) Schwehm, Sara and Anthony Hying, Michael (Catherine), Dan and John Jaeger, Julia Vradenburg and Lena Hampson; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Menke, in-laws Cletus and Joanna Hying, Donna Hying and Mary Kramer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law, Alois and Frances Menke, brother, Omer Menke, and sister and brother-in-law, Jim and Marilyn Pustina,

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 305 Walnut Street, Dodgeville. Monsignor Daniel Ganshert will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed at 9:00 a.m. with visitation immediately following until time of Mass on Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Parish in Dodgeville or to Upland Hills Health, Dodgeville.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Crestridge Assisted Living for the excellent care provided to Phyllis while she was a resident.
