Phyllis Louise Nichols, 90, of Keene, NH, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2017 at her home in Keene, with her family by her side.

She was in born in Keene, NH on December 1, 1926 the daughter of Aron and Ione (Spaulding) Fisk. She grew up in Gilsum, NH and attended high school in upstate New York and Plymouth, MA, eventually graduating in 1944 from Keene High School.

Phyllis married Valmore LaCoste in 1948 and together they raised four sons at their home on River St. in Keene.

She later married Fred Stillings of Keene, who passed away in 1979.

In 1991, she married Richard Nichols of Keene. She retired soon thereafter, and she and Rich spent the next several years wintering in Eustis, FL and summering in Keene and Washington, NH. Most recently they lived at Bentley Commons in Keene. Together, they lived a very active life - dancing 2 or 3 nights a week, going on long walks, playing golf (a sport she took up in her 60's), and playing cards with friends. They traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. They loved to go on cruises, visiting such places as the Caribbean, Alaska, and the Mediterranean. She enjoyed county music and was an avid poker player. Most of all, she enjoyed the time she spent with friends and family.

Phyllis was a talented knitter and crocheter, making countless afghans, blankets, sweaters, mittens, and hats for family and friends. She enjoyed crafts of all sorts and many of her creations could be found throughout her homes. She was a great cook and took great pleasure in feeding both friends and family. Her rhubarb pie and blueberry cake were without equal!

She served as president of the VFW Auxiliary in Keene, and served on several committees at the Country Club Estates in Eustis, FL.

Phyllis worked at the former Faulkner and Colony Woolen Mills; the former Grand Union Grocery Store; the NGM Insurance Company, and as a receptionist with the Social Security Office in Keene.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Richard Nichols, of Keene; two sons, Randal LaCoste and his wife, Gerri, of Walpole, David LaCoste and his wife, Patricia Campbell, of Keene; a grandson, Sean LaCoste of Walpole; a step-daughter, Anne Nichols of Keene; a step-son, Kendall Nichols of Keene; her two "adopted daughters", Cheryl Munroe of Gilsum, NH and Sally Alexander of Marlborough, NH; her beloved cat "Dutchess"; and several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her infant son, Peter; sons, Michael and Gregory; her first husband, Valmore LaCoste; and her second husband, Fred Stillings.

A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 8, 2016 at 11:00AM in St. Bernard Church, 185 Main Street, Keene, NH. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Main Street, Keene. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene.
