Quiteria ("Kay") R. De Mello, 93, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Arthur ("Taby") D. Mello with whom she shared 69 years of marriage.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Luis and Alexandrina Freitas, she was a resident of New Bedford and worked as the manager of Smith's Corset Shop in downtown New Bedford until her retirement to Naples, Florida where she and Arthur resided for 20 years before their return to the area.

She leaves behind a daughter, Sheila Azevedo and her husband Manuel of Dartmouth; two grandchildren, Wendy Azevedo and Kelley De Mello; two great-grandchildren, Alec De Mello and Harris De Mello; as well as several nieces. She was the sister of the late Laurinda Amaral.

In accordance with her wishes Kay desires to be cremated and to have her ashes mixed with Taby's. In keeping with her daily enjoyment of a glass of red wine, please find a moment to raise your glass in celebration of her life and in honor of their reunion.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11:00 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 247 North St., New Bedford.

Arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth.
